Madwaleni Hospital Services

The hospital has 180 beds in 7 wards, an outpatients department and a dedicated HIV wellness and ARV unit.

Two wards are for medical and surgical adult patients, three are dedicated for adults with HIV/TB.  There is a paediatric ward and a maternity unit.The busy outpatient department caters for a huge variety of self presentations and nurse referrals 24 hours a day. The maternity unit delivers around 1,200 babies per year and there are facilities for Caesarean section 24 hours a day.

The HIV unit cares for over 4,000 patients of whom about half require and are on anti-retroviral therapy (ARVs). This service is decentralised to and supported by a doctor at peripheral clinics. There is a weekly focused paediatric HIV wellness and ART clinic and a prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) clinic.

The rehabilitation department is currently thriving. There are 2 physiotherapists, 2 occupational therapists and a team of assistants. They work in the outpatient department, the wards and provide outreach services at the peripheral clinics. 

In addition the hospital operates an expanding orphans and vulnerable children programme and a home based care initiative at the peripheral clinics.
